CHRISTMAS COOKIES

Ingredients

2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) sweet unsalted butter
3 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda, dissolved in 1/8 cup milk
2 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Mix sugar, butter, and eggs. Mix in baking soda mixture and vanilla. Add flour until dough sticks to side of bowl and forms ball. Refrigerate overnight.
Roll out and cut into shapes. Bake in 350 degree oven about 12 mins, til golden brown.

Decoration

To decorate before baking:
Mix 1 egg yolk with a few drops of food coloring to make colored egg wash. Brush over cookies once they're on cookie sheets. While the egg wash is wet, sprinkle with colored sugars, nonpareils, and the like.
To decorate after baking:
Make icing with 1 box of powdered sugar, 2 T lemon juice and enough milk to make the proper consistency for either spreading, drizzling, piping, glazing or dipping. Add a few drops food color to desired hue. Afix decorations before icing dries.
